Adam Laurendi
I am Perth-born and raised spending my first 37 years in Western Australia, including many years in the Kimberley region of Northern WA . I have been in Cairns now for over two years and love the nature and community heart this town has. I identify as cis-gender gay male and welcome all diverse sexualities & genders.
I have been an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker since 2022 after completing a Bachelor Degree in Social Work at Curtin University (WA) in 2016.
My passion is working with people who want to have more management and control of their emotional responses & behaviours. The underpinning of my work is Polyvagal and Attachment Theory/Science.
I have a cheeky dog named Louie, love plants & gardening and am a Crossfit enthusiast.
My Experience
- Drug & Alcohol settings (counselling and therapeutic community rehab), Hospital and Community Mental Health and general counselling/social work support. I have worked in remote communities and lived in rural towns.
- My experience lies primarily with 14-years and older, and welcomes LGBTIQA+, First Nations Aboriginal & Torres Strait Island people. Regardless of drug and alcohol use or prescribed medications, I will work with whatever is being used to ensure that we are staying within your psychological capacity and window of tolerance.
- There has not been a problem too challenging to explore with my clients so far, whether presenting with histories of trauma, grief or relationship difficulties. I also acknowledge the challenges of society at a broader level impacting the relationship we have with ourselves and others, in addition to understanding the ongoing effects of colonisation on our Mob.
